We can only apologise.Įvery single track (no duds here, thanks) sounds like a hit, from the energetic and foot-tappingly good ‘Girl Almighty’ to the mellow-with-folksy-undertones ‘Fool’s Gold’. Yes that was a bit of a strange metaphor. In fact, it seems like One Direction have well and truly discovered their ‘sound’, with a polished and accomplished collection of tracks that’ll have your eardrums simultaneously weeping with joy and rolling around inside your head in pure delight. The boys have been banging on about how this latest musical offering is ‘more mature’ in various interviews for the past few months, and you know what? They’re weren’t lying.

It probably won’t surprise you to hear that the answer is a big fat YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES. Yep, we were sent an advance copy of Four by those rather nice people at Sony, and after we’d calmed down enough to stop shouting ‘GET IT IN OUR EARS’ at each other, we sat down to have a proper listen to the much hyped record.īut before we get on to the track by track bit, let’s just have a chat about the whole thing as a ‘body of work’, to use a rather wanky sounding industry term, shall we? In other words: Is it any bloody good? Although you probably knew that, because you read the headline. Which brings us rather neatly to the point of this article – a track by track review of said album. Not only that, but they’re also gearing up to release their FOURTH album, rather appropriately called Four.

In 2010, after being voted off of the X Factor in third place, (still crying a bit about that, tbh) Zayn Malik told the world that we ‘hadn’t heard the last of One Direction’ – and it turns out that truer words have never been spoken.įast forward four years and the boys have secured the title of ‘biggest boyband on the planet’ - with a gazillion top 10 singles all over the world, two box-office smash movies, several hairstyles and more awards than you can shake one of Harry Styles’ headrags at.
